
Purpose of the Policy
The purpose of this Health Policy is to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all learners, staff, and visitors at El Saadi College. The policy provides clear guidelines for maintaining a safe, hygienic, and healthy school environment in compliance with South African regulations and Islamic values.
Scope
This policy applies to:
All learners (including preschool, primary, and higher grades)
All staff members (teaching, administrative, and support staff)
Parents, caregivers, volunteers, and visitors

El Saadi College commits to:
Providing a clean, safe, and healthy learning environment
Preventing the spread of illness and infection
Promoting healthy habits and hygiene among learners
Responding promptly and appropriately to health-related incidents
Health Screening and Illness Management
5.1. Daily Observation
Educators will observe learners daily for signs of illness such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, persistent cough, or unusual behaviour.
5.2. Sick Learners
Learners who are visibly ill will not be allowed to attend school.
Parents/guardians will be contacted immediately to collect sick learners.
Learners may only return to school once fully recovered or with a medical clearance where required.
5.3. Communicable Diseases
Parents must inform the school if a learner is diagnosed with a communicable disease.
Confidentiality will be maintained while necessary precautions are taken.
The school may request a medical clearance before re-admission.
Medication Management
Staff may not administer medication unless written consent is provided by the parent/guardian.
Medication must be clearly labelled with the learner’s name, dosage, and instructions.
Prescription medication must be accompanied by a doctor’s note.
Medication will be stored safely and securely.
First Aid and Emergency Care
A fully stocked first aid kit will be available on the premises at all times.
At least one staff member trained in basic first aid will be present during school hours.
In case of serious injury or emergency, emergency services will be contacted immediately.
Parents/guardians will be informed as soon as possible.
Hygiene and Sanitation
8.1. Personal Hygiene
Learners will be encouraged to wash hands regularly, especially before eating and after using the toilet.
Hygiene education will form part of the school program.
8.2. Environmental Hygiene
Classrooms, toilets, kitchens, and common areas will be cleaned and sanitized daily.
Waste will be disposed of safely and regularly.
Clean drinking water will always be available.
Food Safety and Nutrition
All food prepared or served at the school must meet basic food safety standards.
Food handlers must maintain high standards of cleanliness.
Learners with food allergies must be identified, and parents must provide written information.
No sharing of food is encouraged where allergies are present.

El Saadi College recognizes the importance of emotional and mental well-being.
Learners will be treated with dignity, care, and respect.
Bullying, abuse, or neglect will not be tolerated and will be addressed according to school policies.
Learners in distress will be referred to parents and relevant support services where necessary.
. Accidents and Incident Reporting
All accidents, injuries, or health incidents must be recorded in the school incident register.
Parents will be notified of any injury involving their child.
Preventive measures will be reviewed after any serious incident.
